Fixed fees hit small purchases harder
For an illustrative fee of 10% plus $0.50, a $3 sale incurs $0.80 in that stated fee, or 26.7% of the price. A $15 sale incurs $2, or 13.3%. The percentage has not changed; the fixed charge is spread over a larger purchase. This arithmetic excludes any other costs or charges.
Check the route to the customer
Gumroad's public pricing currently lists 10% plus $0.50 for direct/profile sales and 30% for sales to new customers through Discover. These are different routes, not interchangeable assumptions. Verify all applicable payment charges and current terms before comparing platforms. We have not tested checkout or payouts for this article.
A useful bundle needs a reason to exist
A coherent bundle can reduce the effect of a fixed per-order fee. For example, a weekly planning sheet and its matching budget worksheet may make sense together. Adding unrelated files solely to raise the price can hurt the product. Test whether the bundle solves a fuller problem, whether people understand it, and whether support stays manageable.
Count time as well as cash
Imagine ten sales that each require a ten-minute support conversation. That is 100 minutes before creating, marketing or updating the file. A product is not passive simply because delivery is automatic. Clear instructions, a sample and a description of compatible software can reduce avoidable questions.
The minimum useful worksheet
Record price, number of orders, percentage fee, fixed fee, processor charges, refunds, software cost and support minutes. Calculate the cash result and the hourly result separately. Try a quiet-month scenario. Choose a price that reflects what the product does for the customer, rather than a promised income target.
