When does Payhip Plus actually save you money?

A monthly subscription can reduce transaction fees. It can also turn a quiet month into a loss. Before upgrading your digital product store, compare the subscription with the fees it actually replaces.

The published plans

As checked on October 8, 2026, Payhip lists Free at $0 per month with a 5% platform transaction fee, Plus at $29 per month with a 2% fee, and Pro at $99 per month without a platform transaction fee. Payment processor fees still apply on every plan. These are published terms, not a review of our own sales.

The Free-to-Plus calculation

Let R be monthly revenue subject to the platform fee. The Free plan costs 0.05 × R. Plus costs $29 + 0.02 × R. Setting the two equal gives R = $29 ÷ 0.03, or about $966.67. At $500 revenue, Free costs $25 and Plus costs $39. At $1,500, Free costs $75 and Plus costs $59. The difference is $16 before other costs. This is a platform-fee calculation, not a forecast of income.

The next upgrade has a different threshold

Compare Plus with Pro separately: $29 + 0.02 × R = $99. Their platform costs meet at $3,500 monthly revenue. Above that level Pro has the lower published platform cost. Comparing Free directly with Pro gives a $1,980 threshold, but that does not mean Pro is the cheapest of all three plans there: Plus still costs less at that point.

What this calculation leaves out

If processor charges are identical, they cancel out when comparing plans, but they still reduce your actual profit. Refund handling, currency conversion, disputed transactions, tax treatment and product expenses may change the result. Verify how the platform treats your particular transactions. Do not use gross revenue as take-home pay.

A practical decision rule

Use completed sales from recent ordinary months rather than a launch-week spike. Estimate a quiet month as well as a normal one. Upgrade when the recurring savings justify the recurring cost, and check the cancellation terms first. If you have no sales history, the lower fixed commitment may be more useful than a lower percentage fee.

Try your own numbers

Use our digital product profit calculator with your actual fee assumptions. Keep processor fees separate from platform fees. Change one assumption at a time so you can see which cost matters. A platform upgrade can improve an existing business; it cannot create demand for a product.
