Does a Logi Bolt receiver work with the Logitech M720?

Two USB receivers can look similar and still use different wireless systems. Before buying a replacement for a Logitech M720, identify the connection type. A product-family name is more useful than matching the colour or shape of the receiver.

The direct answer

A Logi Bolt receiver is not a substitute for the Unifying receiver connection described for the M720 Triathlon. Logitech states that Bolt and Unifying devices are not cross-compatible. Its M720 documentation describes a Unifying receiver connection. Check the exact model and markings on your own device before ordering a replacement.

Identify both ends of the connection

Look for the receiver family on its packaging or official listing and the matching mark on the underside of the mouse. Logitech's identification guide distinguishes Bolt, Unifying and other receiver types. The statement 'Logitech USB receiver' is not enough to establish compatibility. A photo of a similar-looking adapter is also not a sufficient product specification.

Check the computer separately

A physically compatible USB port does not change the receiver's wireless protocol. If your laptop only has USB-C ports, an appropriate adapter can address the connector issue, but it cannot convert Bolt into Unifying. If you plan to use Bluetooth instead, verify that the exact mouse, computer and chosen workflow support that route.

Before buying a replacement

Record the complete model, intended computer and receiver family. Compare those with the official support page and the seller's exact listing. Ask the seller to clarify ambiguous compatibility claims, and check returns before placing an order. Do not assume a mixed mouse-and-keyboard set can share one receiver unless both are explicitly compatible.

Keep the recommendation in context

Our M720 article is a manufacturer-specification shortlist, not a hands-on test. This page narrows one compatibility question; it does not promise that every pairing or software problem will be solved by a new receiver. Read the broader two-computer mouse checklist before deciding whether to replace hardware at all.
